The drone arms race continues to heat up as DJI rolls out new models and rumored iterative upgrades to existing ones. What more could you expect from the world’s largest consumer drone company?
A master of marketing, DJI manages to keep itself in the headlines with either new releases or rumored new releases and the clamor surrounding the new DJI Mavic Air may soon find a new focus in the update for the DJI Mavic Pro, the rumored DJI Mavic Pro II which could feature a 1” camera according to speculation.
The upgrade from the DJI Mavic Pro’s current ⅔” inch camera to 1” would bring the model in line with the current Phantom 4 Pro.
This size upgrade should help with ISO performance, dynamic range, and the drone’s ability to take detailed images. Serious drone photographers should also take note that, not only is the camera better, but also you’re going to get more of an opportunity to use it.
Perhaps best of all for drone pilots that like to get the most out of their system, the battery life is estimated at an impressive 35 minutes of time aloft. That might not seem like a lot of time in the air but it is actually quite a bit, especially when compared with some lower-end drones.
Keeping in mind that many serious drone pilots purchase multiple batteries, having over one hour of total flight time between two batteries is a big step up in terms of what a pilot is capable of capturing.
To be fair, this isn’t the first time rumors about a Mavic Pro II are in the headlines as something similar happened last year. Only that rumored device ended up being the Mavic Air.
Rumors point to a March 2018 launch date for the new DJI drone but nothing is confirmed as of press.
